Thirty years ago — 1992
City of Dunkirk paid and volunteer firefighters marched up Central Avenue yesterday on their way to city hall to present the Dunkirk Common Council with a 1,000-signature petition objecting to possible fire department cuts. The firefighters warned that any cuts will have a negative impact on their ability to fight fires in the city.
Forty years ago — 1982
Bernard Paul Duliba of 963 Central Ave., Dunkirk claims that he has developed a method of painting pictures on cellophane. Mr. Duliba says he uses a mixture of water colors, oils and “secret ingredients.” For painting, he uses water color brushes and “secret instruments.” He plans to exhibit and sell his painting on cellophane.
Fifty years ago — 1972
Mary Ellen Portman, who will be a sophomore at Westfield Academy and Central School this year, fired a 36 at the Pinehurst Golf Course in Westfield to set the women’s record for nine holes.
