Thirty years ago — 1992
An opening ceremony was held recently for the Sinclairville Area Health Clinic at 9 Park St., Sinclairville. Westfield Memorial Hospital selected the Sinclairville facility as one of two to be opened this year. Chairman of the Chautauqua County Legislature Lance S. Spicer said, “This is a prime example of Westfield Memorial Hospital’s continuing effort to provide high quality health care for communities in Chautauqua County.”
Forty years ago — 1982
Thirteen employees at the Comstock Foods canning factory in South Dayton were sent to area hospitals after an outside chlorine tank ruptured at the plant. Chlorine fumes entered the plant which was totally evacuated. About 100 employees were canning green beans at the time of the leak. The plant was “within days” of going two full years without a time-loss accident when the leak occurred.
Fifty years ago — 1972
Fredonia firemen battled a general alarm fire for almost six hours late last night at the site of the former Morse Basket Factory on East Main Street. The blaze destroyed the upper floors of the 2-1/2 story wooden barn, used as storage for basket materials and antique cars.
