Thirty years ago — 1992

A new program was started this summer in Sheridan where community residents take responsibility for cleaning up town roadways about four times a year. Sheridan Town Highway Superintendent Robert Wdowiasz noted there has been some interest by local residents who are community minded and want to keep Sheridan’s roadways looking nicer. These include the Steve Gloss family and the Paul Till family.

Forty years ago — 1982

Two local girls who previously won the title of “Miss Majorette” at the Chautauqua County Fair in their respective age categories were named first runner-ups at the New York State Fair. Jodi VanRennselaer captured that spot in the tiny tot division (ages 0-6). She is the daughter of Barbara VanRennselaer of Silver Creek. Stephanie Krzyzanowski, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Krzyzanowski of Silver Creek, took first runnerup honors in the junior division (ages 13-15).

Fifty years ago — 1972

A record goal of $180,000 has been set for this fall’s campaign by the United Way of Northern Chautauqua County. Richard Magliozzi is the organization’s executive director.
