Thirty years ago — 1992

Kristin L. Knighton from Angola captured the coveted title of Miss Festival of Grapes at the recent pageant. Eleven candidates vied for the honor, with Shannon Mosher of Silver Creek as first runnerup. Melissa Lyn Ray of Fredonia was named Little Miss Festival. This competition was the 25th Miss Festival of Grapes Pageant and was held in the Silver Creek Central School Auditorium before a near capacity crowd.

Forty years ago — 1982

After nearly two years of waiting, the city of Dunkirk has finally received a bus shelter that it plans to erect at the intersection of East Fourth Street and Central Avenue adjacent to city hall. However, when the $2,873 plexiglass and metal shelter arrived this week, it was discovered that a fork lift had apparently smashed two of its panes, which will have to be replaced before it can be used.

Fifty years ago — 1972

Angelo J. Piazza, owner of Piazza and Sons Furniture Store at 321-325 Main St., Dunkirk is closing his store soon as a result of the city’s Urban Renewal Project.
