Thirty years ago — 1992

Peter Michael Goetz, currently starring in ABC television’s situation comedy “Room for Two” with Linda Lavin, spent several days at Fredonia State University College last week sharing his experiences as a working actor. He is a 1965 graduate of the college. Goetz also can be seen in the film “Father of the Bride,” with Steve Martin, where he plays the father of the groom.

Forty years ago — 1982

“Whammy Weenies” — a hot-dog shaped rattle sold to Buffalo Bills football fans — contain higher amounts of lead in the paint that covers the rattle than federal limits allow. Bells’ Supermarket reportedly sold about 60,000 of the six-inch long rattles in the western New York area, used to “jinx the opposition” at Buffalo Bills games. Pending the outcome of an investigation, officials said Bells could have to recall the weenies and refund the 49-cent cost.

Fifty years ago — 1972

Former heavyweight champion Muhammad Ali attracted about 900 people to the Rockefeller Arts Center at Fredonia State University College where he discussed his philosophy of life, his tribulations with the U.S. government and his excellence as a prize fighter.
