Thirty years ago — 1992

George McIntyre, president of Chautauqua Chapter 459 of the Vietnam Veterans of America, recently announced the awarding of the first Thomas Stone Memorial Scholarship. The 1992 recipient of the $500 scholarship is Dean Swoger, a graduate of Ripley High School and a U.S. Marine Corps veteran. He is now a fulltime student at JCC. The scholarship is named in memory of Army Reservist Thomas Stone from Falconer, who was killed in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia.

Forty years ago — 1982

The four oldest members of Tri-County Golf Course in Forestville can still hit the ball straight down the fairway. As a foresome, the gentlemen have been golfing together every Monday morning at the club for over 12 years. They also get together for a friendly round or two of pinochle. The group consists of Ernest “Jack” Donahue, 83; Albert “Ab” Seegert, 82; Erwin “Bink” Chapin, 82; and Winfield “Bud” Stebbins, 80.

Fifty years ago — 1972

Richard Crofoot, superintendent of the electric department at Westfield, has been elected president of the Municipal Electric Utilities Association of New York State.
