Thirty years ago — 1992
Several hundred persons are participating today in Dunkirk’s Community Challenge Conference at Dunkirk High School. The program began at 8:30 a.m. and lasts until 4:30 p.m. The conference is a community forum dedicated to identifying local problems and offering practical solutions to solve them.
Forty years ago — 1982
A brick shell is all that stands after flames raged through the Blubird Restaurant at 24 Howard St. in Silver Creek. Flames ripped through the roof of the two-story structure, nearly reaching firefighters who battled the fire on aerial ladders. The building has been declared a total loss with damages estimated at $50,000. It is owned by Mary Pelletter of Silver Creek.
Fifty years ago — 1972
Susan E. Knight, a business accounting major at Jamestown Community College and the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Knight, 3725 New Road, Dunkirk has been named the recipient of the 1972 JCC Lucille Ball Scholarship. The annual full-tuition award has been sponsored by television and motion picture actress Lucille Ball, a native of Celoron, for a number of years.
