Thirty years ago — 1992
In a front page photo, Howard Sager of Hanover, a self-proclaimed weather prognosticator, strolls in the woods with his dog, Bingo. He bases his forecasts on his readings of nature’s signs. Howard, who will be 88 in December, said he was taught by an old Indian who would take him for overnight campouts in the woods with just “an old horse blanket under the stars.” His weather predictions have become popular among many local folk.
Forty years ago — 1982
Student of the Week is Eric Everhart, 17, of Oak Street, South Dayton. A student at Pine Valley Central School, he is the son of Mrs. Rebecca McPeek of South Dayton and James Everhart of Forestville. President of the Pine Valley Student Association, Eric also participates in chorus, stage band and concert band.
Fifty years ago — 1972
Beginning in January, New York State will begin a month-by-month phaseout of the current yellow-lettered, blue background license plates. The new plates, now being manufactured by inmates at Auburn Correctional Facility, will be blue on a gold background.
