Thirty years ago — 1992

Taylor Marie Bankoski, 18-month-old daughter of Robert and Tammy Bankoski of Dunkirk, recently participated in the National Prince and Princess Pageant held at the Taniment Resort in the Pocono Mountains. She competed with 85 girls inher division and won first place for the most beautiful eyes. Taylor had previously won the title of Little Miss Regional All American Girl.

Forty years ago — 1982

Charles James has begun his duties as the first director of the Collins Correctional Facility on the grounds of the Gowanda Psychiatric Center. According to Mr. James, there will be no cells for the inmates — only dormitory rooms. The Collins facility is termed medium security. Inmates who continually cause problems could be transferred to a maximum security facility.

Fifty years ago — 1972

Chapman’s Music Center at 262 Central Ave., Silver Creek is beginning its threeday grand opening today. The Marine Corps League celebrated the 197th birthday of the Corps recently with a party in the Sheridan clubrooms.
