Thirty years ago — 1992

The name of James P. Subjack, Dunkirk native and former city clerk, will be proposed to Gov. Mario Cuomo for appointment as Chautauqua County District Attorney. Mr. Subjack was the only attorney to file an application for the appointment. Mr. Subjack, a Democrat, will be replacing Republican John T. Ward, who mounts the bench as County Court judge on Jan. 1. Mr. Subjack will serve for one year. The office is to appear on the Nov. 2 election ballot in 1993.

Forty years ago – 1982

John’s Car Wash at Routes 20 and 60 in the town of Pomfret recently held its grand opening. The car wash is owned by Phil Cenedella of Fredonia; Mark Forbes is the manager; and Mike Brooks is an operator.
