Thirty years ago — 1993

The beauty and pageantry of the annual Rose Bowl Parade will long be remembered by Andrew and Virginia (Soule) Nichols of Fredonia, who traveled to Pasadena, Calif., with University of Michigan alumni for the New Year’s Day spectacular and the Michigan “Wolverines”/University of Washington football game that followed. The couple, who met while students at the university, described the festivities as “absolutely wonderful.”

Forty years ago — 1983

Donald F. Higgs, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Higgs of 8 Walnut St., Forestville is among the students named to the Dean’s List at Canton Agricultural and Technical College for the first semester. Enrolled in the mortuary science curriculum at Canton, the student earned a 4.0 average for the semester. When not attending school, Donald is employed part time at the Riles Funeral Home in Forestville.

Fifty years ago — 1973

Dunkirk Elks Lodge 922 will host a “homecoming” to honor Claudius J. Hoefler, Southwestern District vice president of the New York State Elks Association. Music will be provided by the Tony DiRusso orchestra.
