Thirty years ago — 1993
Student of the Week is Gary Krenzer, 17, a senior at Pine Valley Central School. The son of Robert and Patricia Krenzer of 393 Maple Ave., Cherry Creek, he is a skilled athlete on the varsity football, basketball and baseball teams. Gary has qualified for 1st Team All-Star Football and the Academic All-Western New York Football Team. He was given “first honors” in academic recognition by the editors of the magazine, “Business First.” Gary plans to play football and major in biochemistry at either Edinboro University of Pennsylvania or SUNY Brockport.
Forty years ago — 1983
Dunkirk residents watching Channel 29’s Eight O’Clock Movie on Monday may have been a bit surprised to find the movie’s host for the night was Dunkirk Mayor Edwin Gregoreski. The television station has been asking various WNY political figures to host the movies on a volunteer basis and Mayor Gregoreski taped a week’s worth of segments without telling anyone.
Fifty years ago — 1973
Mrs. James Deakin of Portland has been elected president of the newly-organized Women for the Survival of Agriculture (WSA).
