Thirty years ago — 1993
Fredonia native Mary Ramsey of the musical duo “John and Mary” played the fiddle during a recent performance at the Fredonia State Campus Center. The duo is coming out with their second album, “Weedkiller’s Daughter” this week. The other member of the group, John Lombardo, gained fame as a member of The 10,000 Maniacs.
Forty years ago — 1983
Southtowns Industries Inc. has opened its second store in Western New York at 4893 West Main Road, Fredonia. According to store manager Neil Sprague, it is basically “an energy conservation store” which handles all types of wood heating equipment such as wood furnaces and addon boilers. The store will feature a variety of wood-burning stoves, including the Buck Stove, rated number one in the country at the 1982 World’s Fair.
Fifty years ago — 1973
Dunkirk High School senior Mark Farnham, son of Mr. and Mrs. William Farnham, 713 Park Ave., Dunkirk was named the “Outstanding Teenage Young Man” by the Dunkirk Jaycees. He currently ranks second in the Class of 1973.
