The Monday Evening Literary Club of Gowanda will celebrate 100 years of literary pursuits on Monday, May 17, when members and invited former members meet at Haus Talblick for dinner and an evening of good fellowship and remembrance of days gone by. On the first Monday in October of 1893, eight women met to organize a group whose mission was to start a free library for the benefit of their families and the villagers. With the help of Dr. Albert Lake, a constitution and by-laws were adopted and the name Monday Evening Literary Club was decided upon.
