Thirty years ago — 1993

The U.S. Navy Band Sea Chanters performed at the King Concert Hall on the campus of Fredonia State. The group was organized in 1956 and has been delighting crowds with its dynamic performances since. The event was sponsored by the OBSERVER in cooperation with the Michael C. Rockefeller Arts Center. Among the attendees shown are youngsters Barry Mead, Lindsey Mead and Lenny Mead.

Forty years ago — 1983

It has been announced by Principal John J. Mancuso that Dunkirk High School has been awarded two additional 1983 state Regents scholarships by the state Education Department, bringing their grand total to 29, the highest aggregate total in the school’s history. The 29 scholarships include 25 Regents College Scholarships and four Nursing Scholarships, breaking last year’s record of 27.

Fifty years ago — 1973

Gladys Crowell, president of the Dunkirk City Women’s Bowling Association and Nancy Nocek of Lucky Lanes were honored at the annual banquet of the Lucky Lanes’ Modernaires League held at the Vineyard Restaurant.
