Thirty years ago — 1993

Janet Seminatore was honored as the Fredonia Fire Department’s Fire Prevention Volunteer of the Year during the annual awards ceremony. The event, held in the fire hall, was attended by more that 70 people. Presenting the award were Dale VanValkenburg and Mac McCoy, Fire Prevention Committee co-chairmen, and Fire Chief Julius Leone.

Forty years ago — 1983

More than 100 participants walked in Sunday’s five-mile CROPWalk inWestfield to raise money to help stop world hunger. This is the village’s second year for the event and walkers raised over $2,700. The Rev. Edward McNulty, CROP committee member, stated he was pleased with the support of the project and the perseverance of the walkers who made most of the trek in a downpour of rain.

Fifty years ago — 1973

While federal law forbids 18 year olds from purchasing pistols, they may be received as gifts and Chautauqua County Surrogate Judge Willard W. Cass Jr. said people 18 and over may now obtain pistol permit applications.
