Shorewood Country Club is planning a summer-long celebration of its 75-year existence on the shores of Lake Erie. According to Charles La Duca, general manager, “We’re hoping to make this a particularly lively summer for the members, several of them third generation members and their guests. A committee is planning something special each month — May through September.” Current president of the board of directors is Ron Rys of Dunkirk.

Kathy Baker was added to the Dunkirk High School teaching staff as girls’ physical education teacher almost eight years ago and, with perseverance and pure determination, has completely turned around the girls’ attitudes about physical education. She wanted to make the girls more aware of their bodies, health and appearance. She introduced units such as “Weight Control,” “Slimnastics” and “Thinner Thighs” along with self defense, ice skating, aqua dynamics and obstacle courses.
