Thirty years ago — 1993

The Grand Theater building in Westfield is gone forever after wrecking equipment donated by Nuttall Equipment of Sherman brought the structure down. Volunteers Sam Arnold and Carl Vilardo will now finish clearing the site. Plans were made to purchase and demolish the 50-year-old theater last August by a committee of local citizens. Donations of more than $35,000 from area businesses and residents allowed the village to purchase the theater and adjoining buildings.

Forty years ago — 1983

Sandy Cross of Forestville, operator of Sandy’s Candys, is featured in the May issue of “Farm Wife News” as part of a series called “Hi…This is Farm Wife News Calling.” Sandy and her husband, Kenneth, also operate a dairy farm.

Fifty years ago — 1973

Dunkirk Elks Lodge 922 held a “British Night” in its Central Avenue lodge rooms. Those who attended enjoyed authentic British entertainment and dance music provided by the Brent Wolford Orchestra.
