Thirty years ago — 1993
Two Dunkirk men were given the 1993 Business Person of the Year Award as part of the Chautauqua County celebration of National Small Business Week. Bruce H. Ritenburg III, president and chief executive officer of Nog Inc., and Louis J. Nalbone, owner of Dunkirk Aviation, were presented with the awards by William S. Everts, acting director of the Small Business Development Center at Jamestown Community College. The awards were handed out during a luncheon at Webb’s Captain’s Table in Mayville.
Forty years ago — 1983
Dunkirk High School freshman Ed Quiles won the National United States Wrestling Federation Kids 13-14 championship at 120 pounds over the weekend at Lafayette College in Easton, Pa. Ed, who resides at 92 Maple Ave. in Dunkirk, won six matches in his 14- wrestler age and weight class to become the county’s fourth national champion. Last season for DHS, Ed was 21-6, boosting his 3-year varsity record to 76-20.

Only 100 seats were available to the public in the overly crowded Senate Caucus Room as the Select Senate Committee on Presidential Campaign Activities opened its investigation into the Watergate scandal.
