Thirty years ago — 1993

The finishing touches are being put on the recording of a theme song for the Drug Abuse Resistance Education program in the Fredonia Central School. And, if all goes well, the son will be known throughout New York state. The song was written by David Goodworth, a teaching assistant at Fredonia. It is a radical change from the current national DARE theme song. The words and music put it in the perspective of the students.

Forty years ago — 1983

According to a recent audit by the State Comptroller’s Office, the village of Forestville shouldn’t buy gas at Chum’s Sunoco station in Forestville for its fire trucks and rescue vehicle. It constitutes a conflict of interest since the owner of Chum’s, Homer Bowker Jr., is a village trustee. But the village is saving money by buying gas from the station — the only one in Forestville. The nearest gas station outside the village is out on Route 20, five miles away.

Fifty years ago — 1973

It was learned that following the approval by the Federal Communications Commission, the formal sale of Dunkirk radio station WBUZ was completed on May 18.
