Thirty years ago — 1993
Chautauqua County’s unique Fire Service Enhancement Program has achieved statewide recognition. County Executive Andrew Goodell said the program was featured in the magazine “Size Up” published by the New York State Association of Fire Chiefs. According to the magazine, “Chautauqua County fire service has a unique and dynamic program, one that is unlike any other in the state.”
Forty years ago — 1983
Syracuse developer John Rooney feels his proposed harborfront development project in the city of Dunkirk is feasible, but only if the city is willing to commit itself to the project. The proposed $10 million project would stretch from Central Avenue to Main Street on the north side of Lake Shore Drive and include a new county office building, a hotel, a retail store area and a number of boutique-type stores on a boardwalk. The project would be adjacent to a 600-boat marina that the city is planning separately.
Fifty years ago — 1973
Richard Magliozzi announced that members of the Dunkirk Kiwanis Club will sponsor a bike rodeo on Deer Street between East Third and Fourth streets, Dunkirk for children between the ages of 6 and 16.
