Thirty years ago — 1993
Fredonia firefighters responded to two lightning strikes during a recent early morning storm. The first strike hit the James Nosek residence on Berry Road and caused minor damage to the living room. The second lightning strike resulted in fire at the Philip Lord residence on Van Buren Road. There were no injuries, but the fire caused minor damage to the living room floor and furniture.
Forty years ago — 1983
Louis Pulci has been named grand marshal of the 15th annual Fredonia Farm Festival Parade on Aug. 28. For the past 22 years, Mr. Pulci has owned and operated a 26-acre family fruit and vegetable farm at 556 W. Main St. in Fredonia. He also has raised beef cattle and horses, and operated a roadside fruit market with his wife, Pauline, and their five children.
Fifty years ago — 1973
During closing ceremonies at the recent Chautauqua County Fair, Peter Bartelo of South Roberts Road, Dunkirk was the lucky winner of a new 1973 automobile.
