Thirty years ago — 1993

Ground was broken Aug. 31 on The Resource Center’s expansion project at 186 Lake Shore Drive West, Dunkirk. The biggest phase of the project is the construction of a building to house a Day Treatment Program. The Day Treatment building will encompass 17,000 square feet and will cost $2,014,300. The Program will serve adults with developmental disabilities who have significant functional deficits. A Diagnostic and Treatment Clinic, similar to the one already operating in Jamestown, will be built adjacent to the Day Treatment building

Forty years ago — 1983

A photo shows Dunkirk residents Leo Wysocki and Daniel Lajewski surveying their catch of two yellowfin tuna and three albacore tuna earlier this month. The pair were fishing 40-50 miles off New York’s Shinnecock Inlet in 180-200 feet of water aboard the 38-foot My III Sons. The pair spotted 8-10 blue, brown and mako sharks on their voyage.

Fifty years ago — 1973

The annual Labor Day Swim Meet was held today at the John F. Kennedy Pool in Wright Park, Dunkirk. Boys and girls were separated into age groups and competed separately. A total of 40 prizes were awarded.
