Thirty years ago — 1993

Ann Putnam Miller of Cassadaga celebrated her 95th birthday today and was honored at the Cassadaga Community Building. Born Oct. 1, 1898, she hopes to be able to celebrate her 102nd birthday in the year 2000. This way, she will tell you, she will have lived through three centuries. Mrs. Miller is a member of one of the founding families to settle in the Cassadaga area in 1817 and was raised on a farm located on what is now known as Putnam Road. For the past two years, she has been recognized as the town’s oldest citizen at the annual Stockton Old Fashioned Gala Days.

Forty years ago — 1983

New York Telephone will soon activate new, all electronic call switching offices on Center Street in Cherry Creek and on Pine Street in South Dayton. The new offices will provide the most advanced telephone service in the world to some 450 Cherry Creek customers whose numbers begin with “296” and to the 600 customers in South Dayton served by the company’s “988” office.

Fifty years ago — 1973

Donald L. Coe, clerk of the Chautauqua County Legislature, announced today that Nancy Ziegler, 20 Lafayette Ave., Dunkirk has been appointed to the County Parks Commission.
