Thirty years ago — 1993
The Chopin Singing Society of Buffalo visited St. Hedwig’s Church today to present a program of popular and religious music. Their visit highlighted the observance of the 20th anniversary of the parish’s present church building along with recognizing October as Polish-American Heritage Month. The Rev. Thomas Crane, pastor, hosted the singers.
Forty years ago — 1983
Miss Elizabeth Crocker of Fredonia recently presented the Historical Society of Dunkirk with a framed painting, “Storm on Lake Erie,” the work of Ann Cliff Smith and dated March 15, 1904. Miss Smith was described as a “very talented, self-sufficient person who traveled extensively.” A trained artist, her love of nature was expressed in her paintings and through her purchase of six acres of land in Dunkirk, near the Van Buren area, which she beautified with trees and flowers.
