Thirty years ago — 1993

Chautauqua County’s solid waste managers had some good news for local municipalities, businesses, individuals and trash haulers. It was announced that increases in landfill tipping fees scheduled for this month will be postponed until January and when they do go into effect, will be markedly less than previously anticipated. The announcement could mean thousands of dollars in savings for private industry.

Forty years ago — 1983

Plans for the construction of a $30,000 lighted softball field in Dunkirk’s Wright Park are in limbo for now, according to the city’s Recreation Department. Apparently, the stadium can not be built until officials of the Dunkirk-Fredonia Midget Football League agree to move their playing field from near the proposed site. But officials of the youth football league, including Dunkirk Mayor Edwin Gregoreski who serves as league president, decided to continue to use Samuel Moreeno Field in Wright Park this fall rather than move.

Fifty years ago — 1973

Dr. Rocco R. Doino, general chairman for the “Salute to SUNY” community testimonial dinner at the Holiday Inn, announced that about 325 persons have made reservations.
