Thirty years ago — 1993

The Brooks Hospital Auxiliary is making preparations for a Celebrity Waiter Dinner to be held this month at the Shorewood Country Club. Leading the list of celebrity waiters will be Van Miller, Channel 4 (Buffalo) sports director and Chuck Howard, sports reporter. They will serve select tables. Other tables will be served by men and women from the community, among them doctors, company executives and hospital personnel.

Forty years ago — 1983

For 40 years, members of the Evening Social Club have met twice monthly for cards and dessert. The club’s 40th anniversary celebration was held recently when the current active members held a dinner party at the Vineyard Restaurant before adjourning to the Eagle Street, Fredonia home of charter member Jennie Leone for dessert and pinochle. Other charter members are Mary Valone and Louise Angelo, who is the current president.

Fifty years ago — 1973

David R. Proper, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Proper, 101 West Fourth St., Dunkirk, a senior at Thiel College in Greenville, Pa., won first place in the “humor” category of a photography contest.
