Thirty years ago — 1993

In an OBSERVER photo, young Andrew Fancher of Dunkirk holds a huge “Jurassic Park” potato grown by Dawn Ubaney, 8 Seymour St., Fredonia, and bearing a remarkable resemblance to a dinosaur. Mrs. Ubaney called it uncanny, saying she couldn’t believe that as she washed the potato, the dinosaur’s head became obvious — the shape of the head, the eye and the mouth.

Forty years ago — 1983

The Mar-Val Unisex Beauty Salon and Merle Norman Cosmetic Studio, owned by Russell and Margaret Valone, has an attractive new home at 22 West Main St. in Fredonia. Formerly located at 24 W. Main, the recent move has allowed the salon to be designed exactly to the Valones’ specifications, including a very relaxing expanded area for private manicures, pedicures and facials.

Fifty years ago — 1973

Dave Bauschka, Monte Zielinski, James R. Wasson Jr., Vincent J. Castellana, James P. Bell, Kenneth E. Walker and Keith Francis were all inducted as new members of the Fredonia American Legion Post 59.
