Thirty years ago — 1993
Robert W. Johnson Jr., son of Robert andPatricia Johnson of Dunkirk, has received his doctor of philosophy degree in chemistry from the State University of New York at Buffalo. A graduate of Dunkirk High School, Class of 1977, he earned a BS and MS in chemistry from SUNY Fredonia. Upon completion of his Ph.D. studies, Dr. Johnson accepted a position as a research chemist at Abbott Laboratories in Abbott Park, Ill. He currently resides in Chicago.
Forty years ago — 1983
The Fredonia Fire Department Rescue Squad honored John McCraith of Lambert Avenue, Fredonia at its annual banquet held at the Fireside Manor. Mr. McCraith was presented with a plaque in recognition of more than 45 years of dedicated service. In October, he was one of 11 persons honored by the New York State Emergency Medical Services.
Fifty years ago — 1973
Caroline Hewitt, a Seneca Indian some 80-years-young and former music teacher at the old Thomas Indian School, Gowanda, was named the “Woman of the Year” for 1973 by the Gowanda Business and Professional Women’s Club.
