Forty years ago — 1983

A professional appraisal firm hired by the city of Dunkirk has determined that the total appraisal price for all property in the harborfront area north of Lake Shore Drive East has been set at about $1 million. The property extends from Central Avenue to Main Street. The Dunkirk Common Council will now consider a resolution to adopt those appraisal figures and to authorize its consulting attorney to make offers to the property owners based on those appraisal figures.

Fifty years ago — 1973

A farewell dinner for Rabbi and Mrs. A.D. Silver was held at Temple Beth El, Dunkirk. Rabbi Silver, spiritual leader of the temple since 1967, is leaving Dunkirk to assume administrative responsibilities in New York City.
