Thirty years ago — 1994
Nancy Kerrigan, the 1993 U.S. Figure Skating Championships winner, withdrew from this year’s event, saying she was “upset, hurt, angry” that an unidentified attacker robbed her of a chance to defend her title. Kerrigan was smashed on the knee by a club or metal bar after practice and sustained a severely bruised knee and bruised tendon. She intends to focus now on getting ready for the Olympics.
Forty years ago — 1984
Mr. and Mrs. Aloysius Dybeck of Albany Avenue, Dunkirk have received word that their daughter, Mary Ann Dybeck of Port Orange, Fla., has been named Employee of the Month at Halifax Hospital Medical Center in Daytona Beach, Fla. Miss Dybeck is an RN in the newborn and intensive care nursery. While living in Dunkirk, she was assistant head nurse in pediatrics at Brooks Hospital.

Lt. Col. Kathryn Galloway has returned to Washington, D.C., after spending a week with her father, Charles; and uncle, Robert Galloway of Grove Street, Silver Creek.
