Thirty years ago — 1994

The Marlboro man won’t be helping shoppers carry their groceries at Quality Markets anymore. The Chautauqua County Tobacco Control Coalition has received a $5,000 grant for a national pilot program to purchase 5 A Day nutrition baskets (urging shoppers to Be Healthy) to replace the Marlboro baskets at 12 Quality Market stores in Chautauqua County. Vickey Kaiser of the Tobacco Control Coalition delivered some of the baskets to Lou Dispenza, manager of the Quality Markets store at the D & F Plaza.

Forty years ago — 1984

An extensive four-year renovation project at the White Inn, the historic Fredonia landmark, is nearing completion. The renovation project began when the building was sold in 1980 to David Palmer and David Bryant, then philosophy professors at Fredonia State University College. The White Inn has operated continuously for nearly 65 years and was a charter member of the Duncan Hines Family of Fine Restaurants.

Fifty years ago — 1974

Fredonia Taxpayers Party Chairman Dr. Walter G. Williams announced a party meeting has been scheduled at the White Inn with all interested residents of the village invited to attend.
