Thirty years ago–1994

A memorial garden has been dedicated in honor of the late Thomas M. Heary, former principal of Fredonia High School, by the FredoniaHigh School Parent Teacher Student Association. Mr. Heary, who died Jan. 16, 1993, had been principal since 1972. The garden is located at the entrance to the high school, with a brick walkway that leads up to a plaque dedicated in Mr. Heary’s name that reads: “In Memoriam: teacher, counselor, principal, administrator, PTSA life member, adviser, leader, gentleman, friend.” The garden contains various types of trees and bushes.

Forty years ago–1984

Calendar Girl for the month of July is Heidi Kutsche, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gene Heil of Gerry and Baldur Kutsche of Westfield. Heidi, who graduated in June, was in the top 10 percent of her class academically at Cassadaga Valley Central School. She was selected as queen of Gerry Fire Department and will compete for the county title at the Stockton Gala Days. Heidi attended the Barbizon School of Modeling. She will attend Jamestown Business College in the fall, majoring in administrative secretarial courses.
