Thirty years ago — 1994 Jamestown Community College officials have announced plans to purchase the Rogan Center on Bennett Road in Dunkirk from Chautauqua Opportunities Inc. The college plans to substantially renovate the building and to double the space it already uses for classes. The total cost of the purchase and renovations is $2.25 million. The JCC Foundation will actually purchase the building and then lease it to the college. Forty years ago — 1983 A professional appraisal firm hired by the city of Dunkirk has determined that the total appraisal price for all property in the harborfront area north of Lake Shore Drive East has been set at about $1 million. The property extends from Central Avenue to Main Street. The Dunkirk Common Council will now consider a resolution to adopt those appraisal figures and to authorize its consulting attorney to make offers to the property owners based on those appraisal figures.
