Thirty years ago — 1992 Dr. Mary Kay Urbanik has been named the new executive director of the Northern Chautauqua County United Way Board. She has spent the last four years as director of curriculum for the Fredonia Central Schools and has been in the education field for 10 years. A local resident for the past 20 years, Dr. Urbanik replaces Trudy Penharlow, who left to develop other interests. Forty years ago — 1982 Dr. Roman J. Thirty years ago — 1992 Sidey’s at the D&F Plaza recently celebrated the season opening of their Buffalo Bills Pro Shop. They hosted celebrities including two Buffalo Jills and sports announcer Van Miller. Balloons were given to fans and many prizes were won, including two Buffalo Bills game tickets to Tim Gibbons of Dunkirk. Thirty years ago — 1992 The Allegheny Highlands Council, Boy Scouts of America, broke ground on a yearround program and development center at its Camp Merz property in Mayville. The project is funded through a grant from the Gebbie Foundation. The new building will house meeting rooms and offices for the summer camping program. Two large dormitory-style rooms will be available for coed groups wishing to utilize the camp from September to May. Thirty years ago — 1992 Fredonia Grange No. 1 recently hosted the 125th anniversary celebration of the National Grange when the New York State Leadership Conference at Fredonia State University College brought 230 guests to their West Main Street hall.
