Change of attorney is no drop in bucket

Forestville has taken one step that will help in reducing costs when it comes to its budget.

Last week, the village hired Michael Sullivan as its attorney at a cost of $75 per hour. Though we are not certain how many hours he will work – it was not stipulated at the meeting – we do know some of the highest costs in the village’s budget have come from former attorney Michael Bolender.

From 2009 to 2012, Bolender collected $222,475 as village attorney in Forestville. To put that into perspective, the Forestville proposed budget increase for the coming fiscal year is $492,270.

Bolender’s take over the last four years from the village is 45 percent of that number. That is far too steep for a 750-resident village.
