Campaign item is just wrong

Candidates seeking office may not agree with what their opponent says, but they do need to be honest about it.

A recent mailer sent by the campaign for U.S. Rep. Tom Reed regarding candidate Martha Robertson is just wrong. In the mailer, it says that Robertson was against repowering the Dunkirk plant.

That is just false.

Robertson offered an alternative to repowering Dunkirk with a biomass option, but still favored a repowering of the plant.

On Dec. 15, Robertson drove five hours Sunday morning in a snowstorm to be present in Dunkirk for the repowering announcement by Gov. Andrew Cuomo. Reed, it must be noted, was not in attendance.

So, let’s campaign fairly. Robertson, in the final analysis, was advocating repowering.

Incumbents and candidates cannot mislead voters. Stick to the facts and the issues.

Reed against Robertson is a hot race nationally. We all have a stake in it.
