Great eight for lacrosse
State University of New York at Fredonia graduates were full of pride on Saturday. Not only had about 1,400 participated in commencement, but the university’s women’s lacrosse team was making history.
In its most prolific season, the Blue Devils finished as one of the top eight teams in the NCAA Division III lacrosse tournament. After its win in Fredonia on Mother’s Day, the Devils knocked off Washington and Lee in Lancaster, Pa., before losing on Sunday to Franklin and Marshall, the host team for the weekend.
It was a valiant effort, considering the home team jumped out to an 8-1 lead at halftime in what ultimately was a 16-9 loss.
The Devils, a young team, finished at 17-4. A tradition seems to be building.
