Needed: One caution arrow

We want to note a problem by the Chautauqua County Fairgrounds for traffic.

If you’re traveling south on Central Avenue in Dunkirk, and you’re making a left on to Millard Fillmore Drive, obviously you hope to get the green arrow. The problem is when you’re looking at that arrow, suddenly it goes away and the traffic heading north starts to creep forward. There’s no yellow caution arrow. The green arrow vanishes and the Central Avenue light goes green both ways.

We want to stress that we think the green arrow is helpful for traffic needing to turn onto Millard Fillmore. But when the green arrow goes away, drivers are left to guess if they’ve got time to get through or not.

This isn’t new, but the problem seems more noticeable now because of all the increased traffic on Central Avenue for the county fair. There are a lot of drivers who aren’t familiar with that intersection.

Without a yellow arrow light there, it’s an accident waiting to happen.
