Another option than buying

At least the question is being asked during the Dunkirk town meeting: does the town, with 7 miles of road to maintain, really need a new dump truck?

But the questions should not have stopped there when the town decided to move forward with the purchase of a $161,790 truck that will be used to plow when the snow falls.

Instead – with only limited amount of road work to be done – could a private contractor do it? That way, instead of spending the big chunk of money, the town could rely on someone other than its work force to clear the roads and would have to spend less on equipment.

Dunkirk and Arkwright are two of the smallest towns in the north county. Officials there need to begin more with outsourcing.
