Painful ways are familiar
It appears as though the village of Cherry Creek may follow in the footsteps of Forestville.
Last week, the Village Board there discussed the matter and seems to be intent with moving ahead — at full speed — on the topic of dissolution. Cherry Creek, we might add, is similar to Forestville, which gave its blessing to dissolution for a second time.
Its population of 452 is smaller than that of Forestville. Its mayor normally runs unopposed. And, because of problems with an old school building that needed to be demolished, the village had to increase its tax rate at an unusually high amount in recent years.
Oh, and by the way, there is one more questionable link between Cherry Creek and Forestville: its attorney.
Just like Forestville, Cherry Creek relied heavily on Michael Bolender, who collected $180,120 from 2009 to 2012.
That’s a high price in a village where current payroll — according to seethroughny.net — is only about $52,000. Do we really think the attorney had the village’s best interests at heart?
