Tale of turkeys keeps growing
Already embraced by the neighborhood, the Central Avenue turkeys in Dunkirk have gained a following in the region.
As we noted in an article on the front page last month, the birds have become quite popular with motorists stopping to take photos when they are spotted. “Everybody knows the Central Avenue turkeys,” said resident Jill Krzyzanowicz in the Feb. 17 article. “Everyone who travels up and down this street has seen the turkeys or has had to stop for the turkeys. We just crack up because we will look out the window and people’s cars are pulling over that they’re snapping pictures. We’re not talking about a week or a month this has been going on for months.”
Adding to the fun is a sign that was seen in front of one of the homes in recent days proclaiming “turkey crossing.”
Maybe our city can get in on the act. In Buffalo, there was a tour of the bison at different businesses. In Olean, there are squirrels. Maybe Dunkirk has found its mascot.
