TLC’s boost from Butler

TLC Health Network in Irving is losing a valuable asset. The hospital announced last week that Scott Butler, chief operating officer, accepted a chief executive officer position in Evansville, Ind.

Butler faced plenty of adversity while he was here. He joined the organization when it was known as the Lake Erie Regional Health System of New York as the vice president of marketing. Unfortunately, it was a time of uncertainty that included a major flood that wiped out one hospital in Gowanda. Deficits would soon follow at TLC and Brooks Hospital in Dunkirk.

It was then announced, in 2013, TLC would close its doors. That’s when Butler rose to the challenge. Working with John Galati, current TLC chief executive officer, the administration and workers turned it around when the prognosis was more than bleak. Now, TLC is on the cusp of joining a Kaleida affiliation once it exits bankruptcy.

“Scott made a difference for the communities we serve in assuring that TLC met their needs with the provision of quality services,” Galati said. “He is a very talented administrator and there is no doubt that he will be successful in bringing his talents and skills to his new position.”

Butler more than weathered the storm in turning around TLC and keeping its doors open. His legacy here will be long lasting.

CORRECTION

In our editorial Sunday regarding the Dunkirk Public Library vote, the facility upped its spending from $194,000 to $350,000 in its first year of becoming a taxing entity. That is a more than 80 percent increase in spending. The amount reported in the earlier editorial was incorrect.

Starting at $3.50/week.
