Thruway: Both responsible for poor road
We understand there are two sides to the Thruway story that pits the Seneca Nation against New York. The nation recently named the state in a legal action in regard to the interstate going through its territory.
“We are not seeking to cause any disruption, but rather to ensure that the New York State authorities comply with federal law and gain approval from the Department of Interior for the Thruway that encroaches on 300 acres of land that has belonged to the Nation and our ancestors for generations,” said Seneca Nation President Todd Gates.
We’re not taking sides in the dispute — and we understand the Seneca Nation’s stance. But we continue to take a side in the porous 3-mile condition of the road near Exit 58. It is a disgrace — and could become dangerous for motorists if repairs do not happen soon.
Lawsuit or not, someone will get hurt. It’s too bad drivers are being inconvenienced by both parties in this dispute.
