‘Arguing’ is taking a toll

During the workshop portion of the Fredonia Village Board’s June 11 meeting, longtime resident Frank DeJohn rose.

“I’ve been to many meetings. I’ve never seen the arguments that go on,” he said. “A little bit of this menu (agenda) here, you haven’t gotten to nothing. You’re just arguing. It’s no good. It’s bad.”

Along with that, some of the residents who attended the meeting to voice their opinion over proposed alcohol and food truck policy sat there and nodded their heads while the board and mayor went at it. Some in the crowd even noted how embarrassing it was getting. Keep in mind there was no public hearing on either issue despite a motion that was made at the May 21 meeting to table the matters for public hearings June 11.

There’s no other way to describe what was witnessed at the meeting than to see and hear the residents who actually got a glimpse of what occurred at this meeting. For those who didn’t see, go and watch Access 5 on their Youtube channel.

Not only were the arguments getting heated, but the attacks made among members got out of control.

Issues over the Eagle Street facility, food truck policy and alcohol policy deserve solutions. And while that takes time, it’s only getting drawn out due to the arguments and attacks which are getting these matters nowhere.

Fredonia Village Board members need civility and some problem solving to get the people’s work done. It’s what their constituents deserve.

Starting at $3.50/week.
