Fredonia: Board takes positive steps

Maybe the Oct. 22 Fredonia Village Board meeting is a watershed moment for this group moving forward. It was at this meeting, the board rejected the rental property law while dropping a law that would make village property owners responsible for debris that runs into the creek.

Filled with residents and elected officials, Village Board members and the mayor did something worth noting — they listened to those who would be impacted by frivolous legislation. “There is nothing you can make us do that will stop the flooding as long as there is a problem in the town of Dunkirk,” downstream from Fredonia, Gary Damico told the board that evening.

The 3-1 rejection on the property law proposal that night also proved one more thing: Trustee James Lynden will never oppose anything the mayor says. During his three years on the board he is nothing but a parrot.

That needs to be remembered by his constituents if he decides to run for re-election.
