Shop local: Executive leads by example

Commentary

Could you find Chautauqua County Executive George Borrello during Small Business Saturday? You did if you followed #WHERESGEORGEB on his Facebook page.

Continuing an effort he started once he took office Jan. 1, Borrello promoted local businesses he visited throughout the day. What a trek it was.

Starting at Aunt Millie’s in Irving, the county executive hit north-county locations such as Cross Roads Country Market and Craft Fair, Just Pets, Valvo’s Candy & Gift Shop, Grape Country Candles, Feather Your Nest and Cool Little Music Shop. There were many others he visited in the Jamestown area as well.

To be clear, it was a local elected official leading by example. He just did not tell residents to shop local, he did it.

As Borrello shared, there are many great area shops that deserve your patronage — during the holidays and throughout the rest of the year.
