Girls team brings home title

Bells and sirens were in order on Sunday night and Monday morning. Both were the sound of victory.

When the Dunkirk girls bowling team returned from home from Syracuse, they brought something special: a state championship. In celebrating, that meant a couple of things: Dunkirk’s bell was rung upon arrival and Monday’s return to school came with an escort of fire trucks before an assembly.

It was not easy over the weekend. The Marauders were in second place during most of the state competition, but they never lost hope.

“My ladies seem to bowl better in the tournaments when they are coming from behind,” said coach Donna Kubera.

A strong finish in the event gave the Marauders a 140-pin win. Dunkirk is proud.
