Driving: Distractions make for bad days

Sunday, despite cool temperatures, was a picture-perfect day. Except for a couple of accidents — one on Maple Avenue in the city and another on Route 5 in the town of Dunkirk.

Causes of the accidents were not revealed, but nowadays — in good weather — you cannot help but think cell phones have something to do with it. Think of the number of times you come upon an intersection and see other motorists looking down while behind the wheel.

They’re likely not changing the radio stations.

Area police, as a public service, need to start publicizing how many tickets they are handing out for motorists in violation of the cell phone law, especially those texting.

Accidents will happen if eyes are on a screen — and not on the road.
