POWER PLANTS: Tonawanda event worth attention

What’s happening in Tonawanda needs to be of high interest to the city of Dunkirk as well as Chautauqua County. In early April, it was reported there was a potential buyer for the Huntley Station, which has been shut down since 2016.

Huntley, owned by NRG, has been a source of frustration and concern for the Erie County town. It’s the same type of atmosphere there that there is evident here with our shuttered lakefront plant, which was in operation for more than 70 years.

“This is the first step in a long road to get this property developed,” Tonawanda town Supervisor Joseph Emminger told The Buffalo News.

But the potential buyer for the site is not yet known. NRG, which has listed the former plant for sale, will not comment on the early sale process.

That being said, this development is worth our attention. It may give some insight on how the Dunkirk situation moves ahead.
